So, you’re shopping for a compact SUV? Looking for a vehicle that is going to enable you to do everything that you love to do? Well you’re in the right place. Take a look at the front-wheel drive Toyota RAV4 LE and compare it to its closest competitor, the C-RV LX.

On the road, heading to your next adventure, you want to feel comfortable, right?
Yep, you can expect interior comforts like Air Conditioning, stylish fabric interiors, and Heated Front Seats from both vehicles, but RAV4 LE also provides a bit more Front Legroom (1,081 mm) than the CR-V LX (1,050 mm).
You want to throw your gear in the back and know it’s safe, right? Well, you’ve got lots of versatility with both vehicles. Open up the rear door and, if you need more space, just flip down the 60/40 split backseats. But when you’ve got some valuable gear in the cargo area that you don’t want everyone to see, guess what – the RAV4 has a standard retractable cargo cover. Just hook it into place to keep prying eyes off of your stuff. You can get a cargo cover for the CR-V, but it’s an accessory, priced at over $400.
RAV4 Engine, Horsepower & Fuel Efficiency
RAV4 has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that cranks out 190 horsepower. The CR-V has a smaller 1.5L engine which has been turbocharged. The CR-V has a continuously variable transmission, while the RAV4 engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sequential Shift Control. Use “D” for fully automatic shifting, or move to “S” for Sequential mode which allows you to control gear ranges for a sportier feel, to help maintain a consistent speed on long downhills, etc. It puts more control in your hands.
With RAV4, you also have the option of Hybrid models – not available on CR-V. The RAV4 Hybrid LE+ offers all the features of the RAV4 LE, but adds a few additional features such as Rain-Sensing Wipers, additional Towing Capacity (795 kg vs. 680), and 7.3 L/100km Combined Fuel Efficiency rating* – to get you to some beautiful locations using even less fuel than RAV4 LE. And, although most Toyota Hybrid owners never need to replace their Hybrid battery within their ownership lifetime, the 8 year/160,000 Hybrid Component warranty offers that little bit extra peace of mind.

RAV4 Pre-Collision System
Every 2018 RAV4 is equipped with Toyota Safety SenseTM P* (TSS-P).
TSS-P is designed to help protect drivers, passengers, people in other vehicles on the road, and pedestrians. It’s comprised of multi-feature active safety packages anchored by automated pre-collision warning and braking. TSS is designed to support the driver’s awareness, decision-making and vehicle operation over a wide range of speeds under certain conditions.
Packaged together in an integrated system, TSS features help address three key areas of accident protection: mitigating or preventing frontal collisions, helping to keep drivers within their lane, and enhancing road safety during nighttime driving.
The 4 key systems of TSS are:
Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) – Provides collision avoidance or collision mitigation support in speed ranges where frontal collisions are likely to occur. In certain conditions, the PCS w/PD may also help to detect pedestrians and help prevent or mitigate a collision.
Automatic High Beam (AHB) – Designed to detect oncoming and preceding vehicles’ lights and depending upon the circumstances, AHB can switch between high and low beams for you.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control -Using forward sensing radar technology, the system can automatically adjust vehicle speed to help maintain a pre-set following distance between you and the vehicle directly in front of you.
Lane Departure Alert – Alerts you if you start to drift out of your lane when visible lane markings are detected.
Always drive safely, obey traffic speed limits and laws, and focus on the road while driving.
*Drivers should always be responsible for their own safe driving. Please always pay attention to your surroundings and drive safely. Depending on the conditions of roads, vehicles, weather, etc., the TSS systems may not work as intended. Please see toyota.ca, your local Toyota Dealer or Owner’s Manual for details.
CR-V FWD LX doesn’t have these safety systems standard… and it has only 6 airbags compared to the 8 included on every RAV4.

Love my RAV4!!
I bought my RAV4 a month ago and bought it based on family and friends who are already RAV4 owners and their own personal experiences with their RAV4… ”dependable… reliable… durable… nice ride” were comments being made to me. It was important for me to know how happy other people were with this Toyota product, thus, impacting my decision to go ahead and purchase a RAV4… – Diane a Happy RAV4 Owner
The best road trip vehicle ever!
We have owned Toyota Matrix vehicles for the last two cars we’ve had so when we needed a new vehicle with more room and better towing capacity we knew Toyota was the place to go. We bought our RAV4 just before a major road trip to the U.S. and it was the perfect choice. Lots of room, comfortable and the safety features were extremely useful. – Chris Hulme Colin
We really enjoy our purchase.
Toyota continues to impress us with fuel efficiency and solid reliability. – BevRich
